Hunting for black holes with the Event Horizon Telescope. Is Einstein still right?

Per Everyone | Gruppi di max 85 persone | Durata singola attività: 45 minuti

Astrophysics

November 10, 2022 h 10:30 11:30

Ciriaco Goddi, astrophysicist at the University of Cagliari, INFN and INAF and Maria Felicia de Laurentis, astrophysicist at the University of Naples, INFN.

The Event Horizon Telescope collaboration (the same one that published the “photo of the century” in 2019, the first image of a black hole) this year released another historic result: the first photo of the black hole at the center of our Galaxy. This new image will allow us to test beyond the limits explored so far the famous general theory of Relativity, formulated more than a century ago. Will it still be valid? Or will the data from black holes revolutionize the way we conceive the Universe?
