Anna Grassellino, director of the Supercondicting Quantum Materials and Systems Center, Fermilab, Chicago – “From accelerators to quantum devices, at the frontier of science and technology”;

Ezio Previtali, Director of the Gran Sasso National Laboratories – “INFN. Fundamental research and advanced technology to design the future”.

The two scientists will illustrate how knowledge changes between science and technology and what scientific horizons are opening up with the new quantum devices.

They are coordinated by Alberto Masoni, University of Cagliari, INFN research manager and Paolo Magliocco, scientific journalist.

The volume is divided into a chronological journey, reconstructing the relationship between science and pseudoscience, from alchemy to lost continents, from creationism to ancient astronauts, showing how this relationship is only understandable through its historical development.

Interactive laboratory by Martino Marangon, director of the university library, Giorgio Erby, Pacinotti high school in Cagliari and Maria M. Becchere, president of ScienzaSocietàScienza.

It will be possible to interact with ancient (reconstructed) mathematical machines dating back to the 1600s, accompanied by original books from private ownership and from the university library. The selected volumes will be available for consultation under the supervision of an expert.

The exhibition displays geometric solids built with technical skill and artistic vision. Platonic solids and starry polyhedrons are an example of geometric shapes that refer to history and other sciences. In the interactive laboratory it is possible to manipulate flat and solid figures.

WANGARI MUTA MAATHAI

[Ihithe, 1940 – Nairobi, 2011] Kenyan environmentalist and activist. In 2004 she was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a Kenyan parliamentarian and Assistant Minister for Environment and Natural Resources in the government of President Mwai Kibaki, between January 2003 and November 2005.

LUCIANA NISSIM MOMIGLIANO

[Turin, 1919 – Milan, 1998] Pediatrician, psychoanalyst, partisan and former deportee from Nazi concentration camps. Despite being from a Jewish family, he managed to graduate in Medicine in 1943, as the fascist racial laws allowed those already enrolled to complete their university studies. Thanks to her medical degree she managed to survive the concentration camps where she was interned.

CHIEN-SHIUNG WU

[Shanghai, 1912 – New York, 1997] Chinese physicist, she carried out his research activity mainly in the United States. She participated in the Manhattan project and was among the first women to occupy a prominent place in the panorama of world physics in the twentieth century. She was the first winner of the Wolf Prize for Physics in 1978, for conducting the experiment that bears her name.
