City itineraries. The Giardino Pubblico of Cagliari: a journey through time.

City itineraries. The Giardino Pubblico of Cagliari: a journey through time.

Naturalistic, historical and archaeological route.

By: Battistina Carzedda, Alberto Fanni, Maria Antonietta Manca, Michela Stefani, Maria Bonaria Zandara (ANISN); Maria Spanedda, Donatella Ferrara, Donatella Mureddu, Luisa Porru (GAK); staff ANFFAS; Students of the Siotto Classical High School in Cagliari.

The visit itinerary will be like a journey through time, which will cross the most significant stages of the city’s history since the most remote past of the geological formation of the limestone rock, which imposes itself on the visitor’s gaze everywhere, covering the different intended uses in the centuries by man. The garden arrangement, which makes the site a true locus amoenus for the people of Cagliari, is significant for the history of the city both for the choice of botanical species and for its architectural structure. The visitor will also be led to pause in front of the art objects contained in the garden, discover their history and sometimes their mysteries, to the point of recognizing themselves in the statues of the sleepers in Palladino’s modern fountains, who are awakened from forgetfulness to enjoy a new cultural awareness.
