The long wave of CRISPR-cas9.

The long wave of CRISPR-cas9.

From discovery to applications in the biotechnological field. The future is here.

By: Prof. Enzo Tramontano
Presented by: Prof.ssa Loredana Onidi

The topic is treated in the context of the genetics of microorganisms, within the analysis of the tools relating to recombinant DNA technology and therefore molecular cloning, applied biotechnologically for the production of genetically modified organisms. According to the National Indications for high schools, for the fifth year the emphasis is on biological/biochemical processes applied to today’s reality and in relation to current issues, in particular those linked to genetic engineering and its applications. Very current topic, e.g. approval by the Italian Parliament.

– citizens need clear and usable information on the topic. See definitions that are not scientific but given by politics.
– CRISPR, the true watershed between the before (genetic engineering, genome editing, TALEN) and the after.
– How CRISPR cas9 came to be (a story based on extraordinary clues and intuitions).
– What can be done with CRISPR.
