Soil is the most important resource of life on earth, not only as living matter, but also as a useful surface for human needs. I was inspired by the European Corine Land Cover project, so I tried to create a visual legenda of the area where I live, Sardinia. The Corine Land Cover project identifies 44 classes grouped into 5 macro areas; the region in which I live has often been called a “continent” and it is no coincidence that there are 41 of them. The objective is to make known the importance of conservation and protection of the soil or its correct use. The project was born during some surveys with the drone 9 years ago now and thanks to a collaboration recently activated with UNICA and the Department of Geology it will be completed by this Autumn. The exhibition consists of 41 square color prints measuring approximately 70x70cm taken downwards to show a cross-section of the earth’s surface. A caption will be provided for each image which will bear the shooting point and a QR code to show its geolocation, together with data relating to the type of land use or cover collected by the university research group. An opportunity to talk about this great resource and how it is constantly changing, albeit at different times compared to human ones.
The Genti Arrubia association will provide logistical support, while the Department of Chemical and Geological Sciences of the University of Cagliari will provide the data and the availability of some researchers from the STGRI project for the creation of the atlas of the Land Cover interpretation keys of Sardinia.
