Giovanna Puddu

Born in Cagliari, first woman, and still the only one, full professor of the Physics Department at the University of Cagliari. She carried out important research work at CERN in the field of nuclear physics and played a significant role in the creation of the Cagliari section of the INFN.

The motivation: “For her research work carried out mostly at CERN in the field of nuclear physics, in a predominantly male world especially at the beginning of his scientific career; for the fundamental role played in the creation of the Cagliari section of the INFN, allowing many young Sardinian researchers to be able to train and progress in scientific research; for her considerable commitment in university teaching and in the training of young masters in the scientific field; for her constant attention to the intermediation between teaching and dissemination of science.”

Kenyan environmentalist and activist. In 2004 she was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a Kenyan parliamentarian and Assistant Minister for Environment and Natural Resources in the government of President Mwai Kibaki, between January 2003 and November 2005.
