Christmas Lecture

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate at Via Università 40, the Christmas Lecture “Critical Materials, Critical Decisions: The Future of the European Battery Industry,” given by Professor Silvia Bodoardo of the Polytechnic University of Turin, will be held.

The seminar will explore the strategic role of batteries in the European energy transition, the challenges associated with critical materials, and the opportunities offered by research and innovation. European initiatives to strengthen the supply chain will be presented, with a particular focus on sustainability and skills development.

Before the lecture, Sofia Carrus (a student at Motzo High School) will tell the story of Lise Meitner.

The photographic exhibition “The Scientist of the Day,” curated by the ScienzaSocietàScienza association, will be open to visitors in the hall.

Following, Christmas greetings from the Athenaeum-CRUC Choir, directed by Boris Smocovich.

WANGARI MUTA MAATHAI

[Ihithe, 1940 – Nairobi, 2011] Kenyan environmentalist and activist. In 2004 she was the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a Kenyan parliamentarian and Assistant Minister for Environment and Natural Resources in the government of President Mwai Kibaki, between January 2003 and November 2005.
